This project was done as an example of my work. Given that I primarily work with healthcare companies, I can't add some of my design projects to my portfolio due to HIPAA and company compliance regulations. I did this project on my own time to highlight my design process within the healthcare space.
Project Summary:
As patient portal use increases, the gaps in these products for chronically ill patients widen. With this product, I aimed to leverage design to close those gaps in order to ensure high quality care for all patients.
Below is an outline of my design process when building a new product.
I used Epic EHR systems as the example competitor for my competitive analysis as it is the most widely used EHR system within healthcare. This helped me identify gaps in the industry and an opportunity for design.
Based on user research (surveys & interviews) conducted for previous projects, I developed a high level summary of the most relevant findings that helped me discover the problem. I then used these findings to develop user personas.
The Opportunity:
Chronically ill patients require a higher level of support within healthcare. As patient portals become more ubiquitous, these portals should also provide more support to patients as they use these products to navigate the healthcare system.
Below are the first low fi wireframes I developed in Figma
From the low-fi wireframes, I further developed them into high-fi wireframes, using the design system I created for this project. Design systems are crucial for consistency across products within an organization.
Next Steps:
- Usability testing to ensure this product streamlines patient experiences finding and seeing doctors
- Long term testing to measure how this product impacts healthcare outcomes for chronically ill patients
